A KNOCK AT THE DOOR

One morning as the clock struck four
There came a knock upon the door
Awaking, "Who is there" was my cry
"The Angel of Death" came the reply

Thinking back over all my years
I was filled with dread and fears
Had I done everything I could
To live life the way I should?

"Angel of Death, please go away
I am not ready to die today
Please, O Death, just let me live
There's so much more I have to give"

"Open the door!" the Angel said
"Let me in, get up from your bed!"
The angel knocked again and again
"Do not be afraid, just let me in."

"It isn't fear that gives me pause
Am I through working for God's cause?
Have I done all that I can
To do my part in His plan?"

"Yes my child, you have done your best
Now it is time to take your rest"
As I rushed to let him in
I awoke; just a dream it had been
