SOMEWHERE IN A FIELD
The stately stag was standing
June 15, 2004 Poetry © Jan Haile Clark
Somewhere in a field
Alert, aware and watchful
As his family's shield
It appeared to be so peaceful
But danger did lurk near
He'd caught the scent of man
Yet he showed no fear
Stood ready to give the signal
To bolt into the trees
Ears ever searching
For sound within the breeze
I walked into the field
And showed myself to him
Why did I do it?
You can call it just a whim.
I stood there watching him
What seemed to be forever
The eye contact we made
We didn't want to sever
I will always remember
The serenity of that day
When life gets too stressful
That scene I do replay
Somewhere in a field
There stands a stately stag
Watching as the fawns
Play a rowdy game of tag

Music playing is
"Somewhere in Time"
